- The majority of family violence victims are female. Females are 84% of spousal abuse victims and 86% of abuse victims at the hands of a boyfriend.
- The cost of intimate partner violence exceeds $5.8 billion each year, $4.1 billion is for direct medical and mental health services.
- Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.
- Witnessing violence between one’s parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next.

- Georgia is ranked 13th in the nation for its rate of men killing women.
- Georgia has been in the top 20 for all 9 years of the study.
- In 2006, 106 Georgia citizens lost their lives due to domestic violence.
- Police responded to 54,010 family violence incidents in 2006.
- Children were involved in 19,524 of these incidents and were present during 10,671 of the 54,010 cases.
- In 2006, 9,376 victims and their children were provided refuge in a Georgia domestic violence shelter.
- Due to lack of funding 3,705 victims were turned away from domestic violence shelters.
- 1,992 forcible rapes were reported in Georgia in 2006.
