Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Georgia



• Georgia is ranked 13th in the nation for its rate of men killing women.



• Georgia has been in the top 20 for all 9 years of the study.



• In 2006, 106 Georgia citizens lost their lives due to domestic violence.



• Police responded to 54,010 family violence incidents in 2006.



• Children were involved in 19,524 of these incidents and were present during 10,671 of the 54,010 cases.



• In 2006, 9,376 victims and their children were provided refuge in a Georgia domestic violence shelter.



• Due to lack of funding 3,705 victims were turned away from domestic violence shelters.



• 1,992 forcible rapes were reported in Georgia in 2006.
